September has been designated National Preparedness Month (NPM) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) since 2004. The annual event and month-long observance is designed to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for a wide range of disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. The theme for 2022 is A Lasting Legacy.
Businesses and institutions in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean should have a plan in place and know the resources they can call upon to respond to natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and even earthquakes. Other emergencies they could face and be prepared for include pandemics; human-caused hazards like accidents and acts of violence; and even technology-related events like power outages and equipment failures.
