By: WebWire

W. Clark Boutwell's “Old Men and Infidels” trilogy “Outland Exile”, “Exiles' Escape,” and “Malila of the Scorch” were all featured by ReadersMagnet at The American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference and Exhibition on June 24-27, 2022, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington DC.

“Outland Exile” (2015) tells the story of a foul-mouthed, cynical, middle-aged 17-year-old soldier, Malila Chiu, navigating the battleground of her own society before she is thrust into the savage outlands. Captured by a harsh, disfigured, and ancient, yet middle-aged savage, Jesse Johnstone, Malila finds she has been liberated to see the stars. In “Exiles' Escape,” (2018) Malila, now back home, discovers to what extremes her own country will go to debase her native morality, prompting her to fake her own death and set off to “regain the stars,” liberating those she finds along the way even as she is being chased by her increasing obsessed commander. “Malila of the Scorch” (2018), ends the trilogy in a finale of war, conquest and the healing of old wounds for “only the wounded may heal.”

In these engaging books, Boutwell propels readers through the stories of Malila and her ancient yet youthful lover, Jesse, keeping readers on the edge of their seats enthralled and intrigued.
