Meta (META) Q3 Earnings: What To Expect

Social network operator Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) will be announcing earnings results this Wednesday after the bell. Here’s what to look for.

Meta beat analysts’ revenue expectations by 6% last quarter, reporting revenues of $47.52 billion, up 21.6% year on year. It was an exceptional quarter for the company, with a solid beat of analysts’ EBITDA estimates and revenue guidance for next quarter exceeding analysts’ expectations. It reported 3.48 billion daily active users, up 6.4% year on year.

This quarter, analysts are expecting Meta’s revenue to grow 22.1% year on year to $49.55 billion, improving from the 18.9% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $6.67 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. Meta has a history of exceeding Wall Street’s expectations, beating revenue estimates every single time over the past two years by 2.4% on average.

Looking at Meta’s peers in the consumer internet segment, some have already reported their Q3 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. Coursera delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 10.3%, beating analysts’ expectations by 2.1%, and Netflix reported revenues up 17.2%, in line with consensus estimates. Coursera traded down 12.7% following the results while Netflix was also down 10.1%.

Investors in the consumer internet segment have had fairly steady hands going into earnings, with share prices down 1.5% on average over the last month. Meta is up 1.4% during the same time and is heading into earnings with an average analyst price target of $867.18 (compared to the current share price of $753.65).
