Poet J. Daniel Cruz Announces Release of New Chapbook of Poetry, A Path of Roses and Thorns

By: Get News

Kansas City, MO J. Daniel Cruz, a poet living in LA, has announced the release of his first chapbook of poems, A Path of Roses and Thorns. A passionately written work that takes readers on an enriching poetic journey, Cruz’s poetry speaks to the heart of human emotions across all of America, touches on lovers lost and heartbreak, and speaks about the immigrant experience in the United States.

As a recipient of D.A.C.A., Cruz has a unique experience in the US as an immigrant. His voice raises questions about the treatment of immigrants, the language used by the media and politicians describing immigrants. Cruz argues through his poetic musings that all human beings feel hurt and pain, love and loss, happiness, and joy, and should all be treated with dignity. His metaphors and language dance with a beat that only a live performer, which he is, could accomplish. He asks questions of his audience and forces you to think deeply about the heart and direction this country is heading.

As a Mexican and LGBTQ writer, artist, and poet J. Daniel Cruz pulls from his experiences as a gay man, expressing himself through eloquent verse, he takes on several themes throughout this collection: the push and pull between romance and self-preservation. The pain of growing up and living as a person of color in America. The passion of an artist. The frustration with national and global injustice. Reflecting the author’s roots, original poems written in both English and Spanish are included. Also included are a variety of dedications, poems to celebrate beloved members of the authors community.

A Path of Roses and Thorns is a powerful and emotive collection echoing experiences that members of any community can empathize with.
