Atlas Resolution Partners (“Atlas”), a newly-formed advisory and asset-management firm providing specialized services to private capital funds and their stakeholders, today announced its official market launch.

Atlas was co-founded by industry veterans, Kenneth Latz and Michael Cavanaugh, to help private capital fund stakeholders navigate complex challenges – whether conflict, distress, or transition – by providing customized strategic solutions to preserve and maximize value for stakeholders. Both co-founders bring deep backgrounds in private capital investment and advisory services, including asset management, fund governance, corporate restructuring, investment value preservation, liquidity solutions, valuation, and forensic investigation.

Atlas will leverage the decades of direct and relevant experience of its professionals to offer a broad range of advisory and asset management services to private capital funds, including their limited partners, general partners, and portfolio companies, across three primary areas:

• Fund Solutions – Services to support the preservation and maximization of investment value of private capital funds, including serving as an advisor to limited partners and as replacement general partner, and by developing liquidity solutions to facilitate fund restructurings.
• Portfolio Company Solutions – Services to help portfolio companies navigate strategic, operational and financial challenges to protect, maximize and accelerate the recovery of private capital fund investment value.

Biographies

Kenneth T. Latz, Managing Partner & Co-Founder

Kenneth Latz is a recognized expert with more than 25 years of professional experience spanning asset management, private capital fund advisory, restructuring advisory, litigation consulting, valuation advisory, the management of performing and underperforming companies and public accounting. Ken is frequently called upon to assist with the resolution of challenging and high-profile circumstances involving private capital funds, serving as advisor, expert witness or principal/fiduciary.

In his capacity as a restructuring advisor, Ken has represented the interests of debtor and creditor constituencies in out-of-court restructurings and formal bankruptcy settings in a variety of industries, including retail, consumer products, natural resources, distribution, automotive, manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications, and technology. Ken has also served on numerous corporate boards and in various other executive management roles for performing and underperforming companies, including president, chief executive officer, chief financial officer and chief restructuring officer.

Prior to co-founding the firm, Ken was a Senior Managing Director at Riveron Consulting (and its predecessor firm, Conway MacKenzie), where he led the Private Fund Services practice, which he established in 2009. Prior to his roles at Riveron and Conway MacKenzie, Ken served as Interim Chief Financial Officer of a direct marketer of women’s apparel, where he played a critical role in the execution of a comprehensive financial and operational restructuring of the business. Previously, Ken was Director of Underwriting at a privately held distressed principal investment firm and a Manager in the Transaction Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ken began his career in the audit practice of Deloitte & Touche.

Ken received a Bachelor of Science degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and a Certified Turnaround Professional.

Michael R. Cavanaugh, Managing Partner & Co-Founder

Michael is an accomplished investor and executive, specializing in a wide range of distressed investments, including private equity, institutional debt and equity investments, and corporate, real estate and natural resource assets.

Michael has over 25 years of investment, management and advisory experience serving in key leadership roles in well over 100 transactions totaling more than $3 billion in value. Michael’s experience includes venture capital, private equity and special situation investing in a variety of industries and transaction contexts, with a particular focus on creating value in distressed assets burdened by complex and challenging situations.

In addition to his role with Atlas, Michael currently serves as CEO and Director of a recently restructured public company focused on impact investing and as Chief Investment Officer of a family office. Previously, Michael was a distressed debt trader and investment banker at Merrill Lynch in New York, an M&A attorney with Kaye Scholer in Chicago, a turnaround consultant with Conway MacKenzie in Chicago and Cleveland, and a Partner and Investment Committee member with Resilience Capital Partners, a special situation private equity fund in Cleveland.

Michael is an attorney, Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Turnaround Professional, and holds the CFA’s Advanced Certification for ESG Investing. Michael earned an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, a JD from the University of Michigan Law School, and a BA from Columbia University, where he earned Academic and Athletic All-Ivy League Honors as quarterback and team captain of the Columbia Lions football team.
