The coalition, founded in 2011 as the 100,000 Jobs Mission, began as 11 companies committed to hiring military talent across the private sector. Membership is now over 250 companies with more than 790,000 veterans hired across their industries. The latest additions include: Albertson's, Aetna, AmeriVet Securities, Cox Media Group, Evercore, Glowtouch, LittleOnline, Los Alamos National Laboratory, SkillStorm, Skookum Contract Services.
“This coalition began with the recognition that we are united in this mission to support veteran talent,” said Mark Elliott, Global Head of Military and Veterans Affairs at JPMorgan Chase, a founding member of the Veteran Jobs Mission. “Many of us are in the same industries, but as members of this coalition, we look to understand leading industry practices, our challenges and successes as we work to harness the cutting edge talent coming out of the military. We are all working to ensure that the entire military community is supported in their transition to the private sector.”
New member companies commit to reporting their veteran hires on a quarterly basis and advancing their veteran employment initiatives with the support from their fellow coalition members.
“Albertsons Companies is honored to be a member of the Veterans Job Mission and committed to enrich and advance the careers of our distinguished service members. This includes leveraging Veteran Jobs Mission coalition best practices and establishing an Albertsons Companies Veterans Associate Resource Group which has grown to approximately 200 active members within two short months. Our focus is on recruitment and retention strategies, recognition programs, networking experiences and community outreach,” said Colonel Rena Shiles, United States Army Retired and Chairperson of Albertsons Veterans Associate Resource Group.
Long time members of the coalition are re-doubling their efforts as the military increasingly turns out highly-skilled talent in diverse fields, notably software and tech. While at the same time, an increasingly remote and flexible work environment presents strong opportunities for military spouses, who are historically underemployed due to the demands of active duty military life.
“We’re honored to have so many military veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserve components and military spouses at Johnson & Johnson and we’d like to continue to see even more in our ranks,” said Alex Gorsky, Johnson & Johnson Chairman and CEO, and US Army veteran. “Veterans are strategic thinkers, and decisive, results-oriented team leaders. In other words, they’re just what we need at Johnson & Johnson to help us on our mission to improve human health.”
The Veteran Jobs Mission looking forward to celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a special event in March 2022 in Washington, DC where the coalition will announce plans to expand its goals for the next decade.
