Earnhardt Chevrolet Brings Sharking Fun to the Desert

QUEEN CREEK, ARIZONA / ACCESSWIRE / December 4, 2024 / Earnhardt Chevrolet is cautioning area residents to be on the lookout for sharks. The staff is predicting a surge in "Chevy Sharking" around town as part of its grand opening festivities.

Area drivers are encouraged to be on the lookout or even claim their "shark" at Earnhardt Chevrolet, the newest dealership in Queen Creek, Arizona.

The recently opened 70,000-square-foot facility features a large selection of Chevrolet's entire lineup, including the Traverse and Equinox - which are known for a special shark-like C-pillar design.

"This trend is a lot like the rubber ducks that's been done [with Jeeps]," said Jason Gourd, Earnhardt Chevrolet's General Manager. "As we hand them out, we are sure that the fun will spread."

Sharking occurs when someone puts a soft toy shark on the windshield of a Chevy they admire. The gesture is usually anonymous, adding mystery and fun.

"The trend spreads because the giver tends to take a selfie or some other picture to show how they are sharing the shark," said Gourd. "Chevy owners find the sharks and get a cheerful boost to their day. Then it's likely they may ‘shark' others. Plus, our sharks have a nice little note attached that offers a pretty cool incentive for people to come check us out."

The idea started with a Camaro owner, in Florida, on social media. Sharks were chosen after she polled more than 2,000 other Camaro lovers online. Eventually the trend expanded to include all Chevy models.

"Our family-run company holds close key values, which have always included building community engagement," said Nature Earnhardt, Media & Promotions Director for Earnhardt Auto Centers. "Sharking is a fun way to start meeting our neighbors here in Queen Creek."
