Premier Office Furniture Announces Australian Furniture Manufacturing Practices to Advocate Sustainability Benchmarks

Melbourne, Australia - 29th Aug, 2024 - As industries across the board become more conscious of sustainability goals and carbon footprint, business activities and manufacturing practices have revamped their business mechanics to remain ethically relevant to their respective industries.

The world has become highly aware of the degree of environmental impact that industrial activities render upon the planet which has led to more consumers these days leaning towards products that are sustainable and eco-friendly and the furniture industry is no exception.

In line with this the overseer of the Australian Furniture Industry the AFA (Australian Furniture Association) and Global Green-Tag International have established a partnership that seeks to enhance sustainability benchmarks related to furnishing manufacturing practices, material selection, furniture designs and natural resource management.

According to the AFA and the outcomes of a research lead by AFA, the association has identified the furnishing sphere as being in a ‘high risk waste category’ indicated Patrizia Torelli who is the CEO of AFA. According to Torelli the newly established partnership between AFA’s and Global Green-Tag is a clear indicator that the leaders and market movers of the Australian furniture industry have embraced sustainability and are prepared to redefine the industry by moving the industry towards an enhanced circular economy via practical and efficient sustainability practices.

Torelli added that there is determination among industry players to bring out the best ways to manage the business that would enhance the credibility of Australian furniture that would ensure that the Australian furniture industry stands out in the sphere of the global furniture marketplace. David Baggs who is the CEO and Cofounder of Global Green-Tag concurred with Torelli and indicated that the objectives of the AFA are inspiring and sees the body as a support entity for the entire Australian furniture industry which involves the entire value chain that start with raw material suppliers and ends at a home or office.

Baggs stated that the aim or objective of the partnership is to mainly build accountability among suppliers of raw materials, manufacturers and distributors whilst assisting them to have a clear perspective on certification pathways that will lead the industry to produce products that are eco-friendly and sustainable.

Premier Office Furniture stated that both home and office furniture spheres are looking into furniture designs that incorporate sustainability and, in many ways, have become a top priority for not just manufacturers and designers, but also consumers as in essence it reduces waste significantly and at the same time conserves resources which will naturally benefit the environment and ease the negative impact that human activities have on the planet.

The collaboration between AFA and Green-Tag includes plans to develop and educate the sector that will enhance sustainability levels. Using recycled materials that are renewable and non-toxic for ergonomic office chairs, desks, shelves and sofas for instance may seem like a small step, but they have a profound positive impact on the environment from a wider perspective due to the quantity of such furniture that are produced, sold and recycled.
