Downstate New York Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers Issues the Following Statement Condemning Lawyers – Including Rudy Giuliani – Who Ignore the Rule of Law and Foment Violence

Downstate New York Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers issues the following statement:

Among its core missions, the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) seeks to promote ethical conduct by lawyers and respect for the rule of law. Those lawyers – including Rudy Giuliani – who advocated for Congress to overturn the result of an election that had been certified by the Electoral College, based on false and unsupported claims of election fraud rejected by multiple courts throughout the country, failed to honor that sacred responsibility. The actions of these lawyers in stoking false claims and ignoring the rule of law were a contributing cause of the brutal storming of the Capitol last week, which conduct threatened our democracy and led to death, injury, and the desecration of our seat of government. The Downstate New York Committee of the ACTL condemns in the strongest terms the conduct of those lawyers who ignored the rule of law and fomented this violence through their unethical and dangerous conduct.
