PLEASANTON, Calif. - October 27, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

Renowned researchers from over 60 leading institutions from all over the world are set to gather online each Sunday for Synchrony 2020 Symposium, from Nov. 1 to Dec. 13, 2020. Academic researchers will present novel research approaches and possible new treatments, including presentations on the role of the immune system, neuro-metabolic studies, and gastrointestinal treatment to address comorbidities in ASD, and the use of animal models and organoids to accelerate research in this important area. In December, we host three days of sessions, including industry leaders presenting the latest therapeutics in development in BioPharma, with leaders in pharmaceuticals and startups with innovative approaches to drug discovery. The sessions will spotlight several clinical trials in the pipeline in industry leaders. Attendees, including researchers, physicians, caregivers, and adults will have the opportunity to interact with speakers through virtual panels.

"We are pleased to be able to host this important meeting to accelerate the pace of research," says Pramila Srinivasan, Ph.D., President of The Brain Foundation. "Last year, thanks to proposals from the round-tables at Synchrony, we were able to fund eight different research institutions conducting treatment studies and basic science; this year we are planning to build upon that success and provide continuing grants for this crucial work. These studies are critically important for improved quality of life for those with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. There is an urgent need to catalyze cutting-edge research, and this kind of cross-collaborative meeting makes that possible."

"Synchrony is a unique opportunity for the UC Davis MIND Institute to share findings from several of its research programs on autism," explains Leonard Abbeduto, Director of the MIND Institute. "We are also looking forward to learning about new developments from the many highly esteemed researchers who will be participating. This kind of interdisciplinary scientific cross-pollination is critical for understanding the complex co-morbidities that affect individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions like ASD."

With support from UC Davis MIND Institute, CalTech, and the sponsorship of nonprofits including O'Sullivan Foundation, 2m Foundation, BlueUmbrella and Synchrony brings together the best from academia and industry.

Speakers from major U.S. and international universities and medical centers include Mayo Clinic, Duke University, FAU, UCLA, Harvard, RMIT Australia, UC Davis, CalTech, Mount Sinai, CNRS France, Mass General, Boston University, Yale, ASU, Cornell, UCSF, Princeton and more. Major biotech and pharmaceutical company presentations include speakers from Roche, BioROSA, Axial Biotherapeutics, Finch Therapeutics, Johnson and Johnson, and more.

The BRAIN Foundation is a California non-profit whose mission is to support translational research that will lead to the development of FDA-approved treatments and an improved standard of care for comorbidities in individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
