Waterful.org Releases ‘Best PFAS Water Filters: Buyer’s Guide 2020’

Waterful.org is an organization dedicated to educating people on local water resources and providing the most up-to-date information on the best water filters to keep their families’ water safe and clean. Earlier this year, Waterful released the “Best PFAS Water Filters: Buyer’s Guide 2020” with research-based recommendations on the best filters to remove harmful per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water supplies. The buyer’s guide offers an in-depth description of products, and the pros and cons of each device and a link to purchase filters online.

WILMINGTON, DE — March 16, 2020 — Having access to safe, clean water is a basic human right.

In January, Waterful.org released its 2020 water filter buyer’s guide, the “Best PFAS Water Filter,” to help consumers select the very best product for their homes. They hired top scientists and engineers to conduct thousands of hours of research, testing and analysis.

In the end they listed the six best water filters on the market. Each filter in the buyer’s guide includes an in-depth description of the product, pros and cons for each item, and a link for where to purchase it.

“Our mission is to provide unbiased water filter recommendations to families,” said Keith Martin, managing director of Waterful.org. “Our research focuses on finding filters capable of taking per- and poly fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) out of water supplies. PFAS are harmful chemicals not easily filtered out, but we recommend devices that can do the job.”

The most common types of PFAS are perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), but they’ve been discovered in other forms and have been called GenX or “Forever Chemicals.” According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), more than 40% of water systems across the country were contaminated with PFOA or PFOS.

“Even in our modern, technologically advanced society there are many people without access to healthy, clean water because of poor public water infrastructures or widespread environmental contamination,” said Martin. “We’re trying to educate people and help them keep their families’ safe.”

Consumers searching for the best PFOA/PFOS water filter should also check that they’re certified by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Two of the most popular filtration methods are the Reverse Osmosis Filtration System and Granulated Activated Carbon Filters, and experts recommend not boiling water because it only concentrates the chemicals.
