Tria Health Announces First Pharmacist in the Country to Be a Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM)

Certification coincides with the launch of Tria's 'Choose to Lose' Program to fight obesity

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - February 25, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

Tria Health (Tria), a chronic condition and medication management company, announces that Tria clinical pharmacist Sarah Ochs is the first pharmacist in the country to carry the designation of Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management.

CSOWM is credentialed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is a designation for health professionals who possess comprehensive knowledge of, and expertise in, obesity and weight management. A CSOWM professional educates, supports, and empowers patients to understand and manage their weight and risks associated with being overweight or obese through nutritional, physical, psychological, behavioral, medical, and/or surgical interventions.

“At the time that Sarah decided to pursue this opportunity, this important designation wasn’t available to pharmacists. It was limited to other professionals such as nurse practitioners and dietitians,” said Jason Grace, Director of Clinical Services at Tria Health, adding, “Sarah thought it was important enough that she worked with the credentialing board and got it to add pharmacists to its eligibility requirements. We’re so proud of Sarah for not only achieving advanced credentialing but for opening this opportunity up for other pharmacists.”

Ochs pursued this designation in conjunction with Tria Health launching its ‘Choose to Lose’ program, which is designed to encourage weight loss. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, almost 40% of American adults are obese. It is now the leading cause of preventable death. Obesity is not only a chronic condition, but it puts people at risk for over 30 other chronic conditions. A 5-10% body weight loss will decrease the impact on other diseases. As a chronic condition and medication management company focused on improving health and lowering health care costs, Tria designed the Choose to Lose program as a natural extension of the current programs offered by Tria Health. “I’m confident the CSOWM credentialing will help us continue to provide critical insight into this growing health threat and specifically impact Tria Health’s Choose to Lose Program,” added Ochs.
