KB Home Celebrates a Milestone as It Has Now Delivered Over 137,000 Energy Star® Certified Homes, More Than Any Other Builder in the Industry

KB Home (NYSE: KBH) is proud to announce that it has delivered over 137,000 ENERGY STAR certified new homes, a milestone that surpasses all other homebuilders. KB Home has been building ENERGY STAR certified homes for close to 20 years and been a significant driver of the success of the ENERGY STAR certified new homes program.

“KB Home’s milestone of constructing more ENERGY STAR certified homes than any other homebuilder in the nation is an important accomplishment for KB Home, its customers and the environment,” said Anne Idsal, Acting Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. “On behalf of EPA, I am pleased to recognize the company for its long-standing leadership and commitment to building homes that earn the ENERGY STAR label.”

KB Home’s ENERGY STAR certified new homes are up to 30 percent more efficient than standard new homes built to code and must be tested and certified by independent third-party inspectors. The homebuilder estimates that its sustainably designed homes have cumulatively reduced utility bills for its homeowners by $780 million. Additionally, to date, KB Home has reduced its buyers’ CO2 emissions by 4.8 billion pounds, the equivalent of removing 435,000 cars from the road for one year.

“KB Home is proud to champion the pivotal role the ENERGY STAR program plays in lowering the overall cost of homeownership and helping our homeowners live a more sustainable lifestyle,” said Jeff Mezger, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of KB Home. “We believe our participation in the program provides peace of mind as all our homes undergo rigorous independent inspections and testing, so our homeowners can be confident that their new home will offer superior energy efficiency and comfort.”

KB Home stands out from other homebuilders as the company gives homebuyers exceptional choice and control. KB Home starts by offering a wide variety of homes at an affordable price. From there, the builder gives buyers the ability to personalize their homes from homesites and floor plans to design features. All homes built meet or surpass ENERGY STAR certification standards, meaning the homes have substantially lower monthly utility costs when compared to typical used homes. The KB Home team works hand in hand with homeowners every step of the way so they have a real partner in the process.

KB Home also offers an Energy Savings Comparison tool designed to educate homeowners and prospective buyers about the relative energy efficiency of a KB home and its projected energy utility costs. KB home has one of the industry’s lowest national average HERS scores (52), and on average, the company’s homes save homeowners up to an estimated $1,300 a year on utility bills compared to typical used homes.

In addition to this milestone, KB Home has been the recipient of more EPA ENERGY STAR awards and built more homes certified under the WaterSense® or Water Smart labels than any other national builder. To date, KB Home has built more than 15,500 WaterSense labeled and Water Smart homes and installed over 600,000 WaterSense labeled fixtures.
