Congressman Kurt Schrader Discusses Healthcare at the Pearl at Kruse Way

Schrader toured the Avamere building and visited patients

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. - October 10, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

Oregon Congressman Kurt Schrader, who heads the Congressional Healthcare Committee, visited the Pearl at Kruse Way, an Avamere rehabilitation and memory care community in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

He toured the building and visited patients, residents, and staff on Sept. 8, 2019.

“Kurt was very down to earth with his interactions and displayed genuine interest in our facility, staff, members, and residents,” said the campus Executive Director, Ryan Lockwood.

The team discussed healthcare, specifically long-term care, with Congressman Schrader. Kurt stated that Oregon is leading the nation in long-term care, noting how the quality of care has dramatically increased with an 11% decrease in rehospitalization rates nationwide.

The congressman also acknowledged the challenges in the post-acute world, including workforce shortage. Schrader and Lockwood discussed the need to incentivize careers in healthcare while also breaking down barriers to receiving education to enter the healthcare workforce.

Many Avamere communities offer assistance in this area by providing nursing assistant classes and tuition reimbursement to prepare new team members for their role and work towards their certification.

Congressman Schrader also noted the capitol was starting to discuss healthcare reimbursement, quality care, staffing, and ensured he would encourage those in healthcare to look at the strides Avamere has made as a leader in the post-acute care continuum.

He left the Pearl at Kruse Way team by praising their role in increasing quality outcomes by developing Signature CareConnect, a model that creates a continuum of care throughout the Avamere Family of Companies, including Avamere Living, Infinity Rehab, and Signature Healthcare at Home. He also thanked the Pearl at Kruse Way team for providing excellent care for their patients and residents.

The Avamere team was happy to welcome Congressman Schrader to their rehabilitation and memory care community. They continue to strive to provide quality care as recipients of the National Health Care Association’s Bronze Commitment to Quality Award and work each day to enhance the life of every person they serve.
