Looking good is about feeling good. It’s also about turning a few heads when we’re socialising with others. Consequently, we focus on our style, browsing online sites for the latest trends, and spending hours at the shopping centre looking for those outfits that resonate with ourselves and with others.

And there is nothing wrong with this, of course.

However, there are some common mistakes that many of us make when trying to look stylish, and we will discuss some of them below.

Mistake #1: We put style before comfort

Have you ever bought a dress or a pair of shoes that are a size too small for you? Many of us do, especially when we can’t find similar in a size more readily conditioned for our bodies. We do it because we fall head over heels in love with the item in question, and we then do whatever it takes to make it fit, even if we then struggle to breathe because of a tight-fitting dress or struggle to walk in a straight line because the shoes hurt our feet.

But here’s the thing. We won’t look particularly stylish in what we are wearing if we are showing obvious signs of discomfort. Tottering dangerously around in a pair of ill-fitting shoes, for example, is more likely to ruin our image than elevate it. Think about that when you’re shopping then, and despite your temptation to buy something amazing from the rack, only do so if you feel as well as look good in the item in question.

Mistake #2: We forget our daily routine

Getting ready in the morning, we sometimes forget to dress appropriately in our effort to look good. We wear shoes that are in danger of getting scuffed when we’re on our daily commute. We put on socks that aren’t built for exercise when we’re heading to the gym. We forget practicality and concentrate on our appearance, and only regret it later when we realise our mistakes.

So, think about your itinerary when you’re choosing the items you are going to wear in the morning, from your dress to your footwear. Focus on our previous point and remember comfort when you’re picking out your outfit. Pack your best shoes in your bag, and wear your sneakers when you’re on the train to work. And when you’re buying something for your daily wear, even when it comes to something as seemingly simple as socks, purchase something fit for purpose. Check out the range of socks offered by Soxessory, for example who sell the best socks from Europe, and have something appropriate for a range of activities.

Mistake #3: We become dependant on fashion trends

There is nothing wrong with wearing the latest trends if you enjoy and look good in them, but never become dependant on them. If you’re forever replacing the clothes in your wardrobe because they have gone out of fashion, then you are going to spend a small fortune. Instead, wear what you want and when you want, regardless of what the top designers are currently promoting. And consider following your own style, whether it’s in line with trends or not. You will save money this way, and especially when you’re then wearing something that suits your personality more than the latest trendsetting garments, you will feel and look better too.
