The claims are directed to whole genetically modified green microalgae for use in reducing dental plaque in animals, where the microalgae belong to the genus Chlamydomonas, Chlorella, Volvox, Dunalielia, Nannochloris and/or Oedogonium.
This patent further confirms the Company's ability to genetically modify green microalgae to create patentable products. In this case, anti-microbial peptides are being delivered to reduce dental plaque in companion animals. This product could be added to food or chewable snacks. Companion animal health veterinarians have determined that dental care is essential for Europe's and North America's *183.5 million Dogs and *196.9 million Cats. Dental cleaning and treatment are expensive services and this invention has the potential to extend the time between cleanings and or reduce the severity of treatment required.
