Discover Recognized as the Best Employer for Asian Pacific Americans

Discover has been recognized by the Asia Society as the overall best employer for Asian Pacific Americans. The 2019 Best Companies for Asian Pacific Americans Awards is in its tenth consecutive year honoring companies at the forefront of attracting, developing and retaining Asian Pacific American employees. This year, Discover was recognized in the following categories:

  • 2019 Winner: Overall Best Employer for Asian Pacific Americans
  • 2019 Most Innovative Practices: Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Groups
  • 2019 Most Innovative Practices: LGBT Asian Employees

“At Discover, we are passionate about fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment for all our employees and believe diversity and inclusion leads to stronger innovation, growth and success,” said Sara Breyfogle, executive sponsor of the Asian Professionals employee resource group at Discover. “This recognition from the Asia Society reflects our ongoing commitment to encourage diversity in the workplace.”

Discover offers a range of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to assist with career development, provide mentorship programs and foster an inclusive community within the company. The Asian Professionals at Discover (APAD) ERG has more than 1,500 employee members across six chapters and is open to all employees. The group strives to share the rich variety of Asian cultures with employees through lunch and learns, keynote speakers and cultural events, such as celebrating the South Asian Celebration and Lunar New Year.

The Asian Pacific American Employer Awards are based on the results of the 2019 Asian Pacific American Corporate Survey, a national benchmark study about the growth, development and advancement of Asian Pacific American employees in Fortune 500 and other large companies. Finalists and winners are selected based on a statistical analysis of internal employee surveys distributed to Asian Pacific Americans, scores from a panel of expert judges and the 2019 Asian Pacific American Corporate Survey.

Discover will be formally honored at the 2019 Diversity & Marketing Leadership Summit on May 15 at the Asia Society in New York City. Asia Society is a leading educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among people, leaders and institutions of Asia and the U.S. in a global context.

"We launched this summit nearly a decade ago, to shine a light on the challenges and opportunities Asian Pacific Americans face in the workplace,” said Tom Nagorski, Asia Society’s Executive Vice President. “While challenges for APA employees persist, we’ve also seen real progress being made by Fortune 500 and other multinational companies, both in creating an inclusive workplace for APA employees, as well as providing opportunities for APAs to advance into leadership positions. Asia Society commends all of this year’s winners for their commitment in these areas, and we hope that others will follow their lead."
