The United Methodist Children’s Home is Now Wellroot Family Services

New name reflects the group's mission of enabling growth, healing, and nurturing stability for children and families, Wellroot Family Services reports

TUCKER, Ga. - April 14, 2019 /MarketersMedia/

The United Methodist Children's Home has taken a new name and is now Wellroot Family Services. With roots tracing back to 1871, Wellroot Family Services has been a leading Georgia Foster Care, adoption, and transitional living support organization for nearly 150 years. All the while, the group has steadily expanded and transformed so as to become better able to serve children and young adults with its Georgia Foster Family services.

After operating for 63 years subsequent to its founding as the Decatur Orphans' Home, the organization became the Methodist Children's Home in 1934. Another update 36 years later saw the prepending of "United" to the home's name in a reflection of the continuing growth and transformation of the Methodist Church.

By becoming known as Wellroot Family Services, the organization will make its modern mission, growth, potential, and approach even clearer. Still an agency of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, Wellroot Family Services will continue to provide a wide range of positive, faith-centered Georgia foster children adoption services.

"We're proud to announce that the United Methodist Children's Home will now be known as Wellroot Family Services," said agency representative Brett Hillesheim. "As foster, adoptive, and biological parents ourselves, my wife Summer and I have seen firsthand what a difference the right types of support and encouragement can make in the lives of children and families. At any given time, there are well over 10,000 children and young adults in Georgia's foster care system, and their experiences inevitably affect them for life. To be well-rooted is to feel secure, stable, and cared for, and that is why we have become Wellroot Family Services. This organization has been doing truly important work for nearly a century and a half, and our new name reflects our continuing commitment to all those we serve."

Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services reports that the state's foster care system included 13,873 young Georgians as of February. Since its 1871 establishment as the Decatur Orphans' Home, the organization now known as Wellroot Family Services has been dedicated to serving children and young adults who lack the familial support and love that so many others can take for granted.

Keeping up with such an important mission for so long has required constantly seeking new ways to transform and grow so as always to remain relevant and effective. The group's new name of "Wellroot Family Services" reflects both its growth and its longstanding commitment to its mission.
