Cherrystone Auctions Sells Over 1,500 Lots In Its December 2018 Public Stamp Sale

Cherrystone Auctions has sold almost all the 1,550+ lots featured in its December 4-5, 2018 public stamp sale. The company has published all the prices realized in the recently concluded auction on its website.

NEW YORK CITY, New York - Jan 17, 2019 - Based on the realized prices posted on the company's website, Cherrystone Auctions' December 2018 public stamp sale was a success. The prices range from hundreds to thousands of dollars for the 1,550+ lots featured in the public philatelic auction.

Cherrystone Auctions hosted a successful public stamp sale in its New York City galleries on December 4-5, 2018. The company has published all the prices realized in the recently concluded public philatelic auction on its website and they indicate success. The December 4-5, 2018 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World featured 1,550+ lots. Notably, the auction featured properties of various owners including George V. Shalimoff's award winning collections of Russia, M.C. Gilhausen's Germany and Colonies, and David Mace’s collections of China, Chinese Provinces as well as Foreign Offices.

The December sale was well represented with solid stamps from The United States, South America, Asia, Great Britain and British Commonwealth, along with offerings from all around the world. As always, there were 150+ large lots and collections, many offered intact, with individual country collections, worldwide accumulations in cartons, exotic flight covers, topicals, including a substantial collection of Boy Scouts on Stamps, plus many others. The highest selling lot fetched $25,000. It was a 1943 Reinhardt Heydrich black souvenir sheet in perfect condition. A 1961 set of four blocks of four Tristan Relief surcharges with a 2016 BPA certificate was auctioned for $22,000. Two 1945 Overprints on German Hitler stamps, Third Issue, were sold for $21,000 and a complete set of eleven values overprinted "British Occupation" and "Postage" issued in 1941 were auctioned for $19,000. Many other lots fetched over a thousand dollars while the rest were sold for hundreds of dollars. Cherrystone Auctions will host the next public stamp sale on January 8-9, 2019.
