Cohen & Jaffe to Award Students $2,250 for College Expenses in Scholarship Competition

The Long Island personal injury law firm announces its 2019 essay contest, allowing college-bound students to share their ideas on personal injury, distracted driving and sports injuries.

LONG ISLAND, NY, January 04, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP, is pleased to announce the firm's 2019 Scholarship Program, which provides an opportunity for students entering their first year of college to compete $2,250 in scholarship money through an essay writing contest.

"The attorneys and staff at Cohen & Jaffe understand the value of higher education, and we are committed to helping more young people achieve their goals," said attorney Richard S. Jaffe, one of the firm's named partners. "We also welcome the opportunity afforded by this competition to raise awareness about the critical issue surrounding distracted driving."

This marks the fifth consecutive year that the Long Island personal injury law firm has held a scholarship competition. This year's essay topics focus personal injury, distracted driving and sports concussions. Entrants must submit an original essay totaling at least 500 words, but no more than 750, on one of the following topics:

General
1) How was your life affected (by either you or someone you care about) that was was injured in an accident caused by someone else's negligence. How did this accident have an impact on your life? What did you learn from it and how did it help your grow?

2) Distracted Driving
Everyone is aware of the dangers of drinking and driving, however, many people continue to make the decision to drive under the influence. Write an essay about the reasons why people continue to drink and drive – and what initiatives could be executed to address those reasons.

3)Sports Injuries
Do you think that there is enough emphasis on safety in sports to prevent concussions? What do you think we should do to curb concussions in high school athletics?

The author of the winning essay will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship. The firm will award $250 each to three applicants who receive honorable mention.

The firm is already accepting applications, and the deadline for submissions is April 5. Judges will announce 10 finalists on April 26. The public will then have the opportunity to vote on the finalists' submissions between May 3 and May 28. The firm will announce the winners on June 10.
