PEORIA, Ariz. - Nov. 23, 2018 - PRLog -- In Path of the Half Moon, the debut novel by author Vince Bailey and winner of the 2017 Arizona Authors' Association Literary Award, Curtis Jefferson lives on the blurry line between prank and delinquency. When the African-American youth finds himself unjustly sentenced to the notorious Fort Grant, a penal outpost in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, he doesn't know that the facility is built upon the cursed site of a century-old Native American massacre. The innocent young man's character and endurance are tested in a racially charged environment that includes a murderous inmate, whose hatred for Curtis is fueled by openly declared racism. But it is the supernatural events arising from a century-old Apache curse that have him questioning his grasp on reality.
Setting the story in the 1960's provides an opportunity to explore the challenges that face our nation even today—the undertone of racism in the United States and the unexpected consequences of real-life events like the Fort Grant massacre, an attack on Native American peoples that had surrendered to the U.S. Army.
