Campo Elementary School is ecstatic about The Morning Mile program that has been implemented to benefit its students. The Morning Mile is a non-profit that has created a program to get kids up and running in the morning as a fierce way to battle childhood obesity and diabetes. This program was generously donated to Campo Elementary by Under Armour, who is sponsoring fifty schools through The Morning Mile program, many in the San Diego area.
Campo Elementary Principal Mona Noren said that this amazing program donation and implementation is all due to one teacher at their school, Kindergarten Teacher Mrs. Sjoquist. “If it wasn’t for her, this program wouldn't be happening at Campo. She values the importance of morning exercise so she volunteered to start it,” said Principal Noren. The school gives a huge kudos to Mrs. Sjoquist’s efforts to get Campo Elementary School into this Under Armour sponsored program as well as the parents and teachers who walk with the students every morning, too.
The Morning Mile is a program that gives children the chance to start their morning before school each day by walking or running, while enjoying fun, music, and friends. The program is supported by a reward system that keeps students motivated and frequently congratulated. When a school is a part of The Morning Mile, they receive a guidebook to run the program as well as set up the reward system. The Morning Mile has been implemented in over 300 schools and camps nationwide, encouraging kids all over to get out an exercise.
This opportunity provided to Campo students and all students in The Morning Mile works to fight obesity, cut down the number of kids who will develop diabetes, and gives students a chance to get their youthful energy expended so their minds are clear and ready to excel academically. Teachers and families love the program as it helps students stay fit and focused!
