CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - October 22, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Who can forget the legacies of the brave men and women who risked their lives on that fateful day in September 2001? Thousands of people’s lives were forever changed. Of those who perished in the tragic event, 343 of them were Firefighters. Courageously running into collapsing buildings, to get others out and save lives. These acts of heroism are what J.P. Taravella High School’s DECA program continually chooses to remember, honor and pay tribute to. For the 5th year running, the school’s 9/11 110-story Memorial Stair Climb will be raising funds for National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

The event requires registered participants to climb or walk the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, in remembrance of the firefighters who never completed their journey. Along with student presentations, first responder John Napolitano will share the loss of his FDNY son in the Twin Tower collapse. The proceeds of this event help to create and maintain programs that support fire service survivors, providing aid for the family members left behind.

Situated on Riverside Drive, Coral Springs, J.P. Taravella High School is continuing to live by its mission statement, aiming to build relationship and to make lasting impressions while motivating, educating, and graduating their students. Along with J.P. Taravella DECA, a non-profit student organization that focuses on identifying and preparing emerging young leaders and entrepreneurs, the school uses this event to build a sense of awareness into their students as well as social responsibility.

DECA Advisor, Mr. Jamie Simmons encourages participation, saying: “JPT DECA’s 5th Annual NFFF Stair Climb will have many firefighters in full gear doing the climb alongside students and residents interested in remembering heroes of the past and helping families of those lost in the present. You will be glad you participated.”

For those who may not be able to physically participate in the event, you need not feel excluded from supporting the cause, 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Donations can be made online. If you have any further queries or would like more information, feel free to contact DECA Advisor Jamie Simmons on 954 899-5543 or via email: jamie.simmons@browardschools.com

Participants will receive an event t-shirt and lanyard.
