UPLAND, Calif. - Oct. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- Dr. Thomas J. Kepic, a board-certified periodontist, has been named Grand Marshall of the 42nd Annual City of Upland Christmas Parade to be held in downtown Upland, CA on December 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
The parade is co-sponsored by the Cooper Museum and the City of Upland. According to David Stevens, President of the Cooper Museum Board of Trustees, Dr. Kepic was selected by the Board to be Grand Marshall of the parade because he fits the criteria of being a pillar of the community, someone who is seen as a local hero.
"Dr. Kepic is a very highly regarded dental specialist, not only in our local community, but around the nation and the world," Mr. Stevens said. "He teaches other dentists through lectures in the United States and foreign countries. We see him as a local hero due to his lifelong commitment to help our residents save their teeth."
"As a resident of Upland for 40 years, I am deeply honored to be selected Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade," Dr. Kepic said. "When the parade ends, everyone is invited to a party at my office, 250 East 7th Street in Upland. There will be food, refreshments, and entertainment. It's my way of giving back to the community."
The Upland Christmas Parade goes through the city's historic downtown. According to Mr. Stevens, the parade typically involves over 1,500 participants who greet between 5,000 and 6,000 onlookers. Vendors also line the street to sell food and other items. "It's quite a festive atmosphere," Mr. Stevens said. "When you see people of all ages lining the streets and enjoying the parade, it's a throwback to a simpler time in small-town America."
Dr. Kepic earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. He received his dental degree from the University of Buffalo and then completed the accredited advanced specialty education program in periodontics and also received a Master of Science degree from Indiana University.
During the course of his career, Dr. Kepic has maintained a busy private practice in Upland, while also at different times in the past serving as the President of the California Society of Periodontists and the Western Society of Periodontology. He also served as a Trustee of the American Academy of Periodontology.
In addition to his other credentials, Dr. Kepic is board certified. One of the highest honors of his career was being elected Director of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Kepic continues to work with the Board as an examiner. "We develop the questions and examine candidates for board certification to ensure they meet the rigorous standards of the American Board of Periodontology," Dr. Kepic explained.
Asked if he had any plans to retire soon, Dr. Kepic said, "I am blessed with good health, great energy, and a wonderful staff. I love what I do. I still have some patients who were with me when I opened my office in Upland 40 years ago. I plan to be here for a number of years to come."
