Ujamaa Place's 5th Annual "Celebrating Every Step Forward" Breakfast with Gratitude to its Community Partners

Ujamaa Place will spotlight its unique programming showing the value of community partnerships that integrate culture and experiential education and training in transforming the lives of African American men aged 18-30 in the Twin Cities.
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Oct. 5, 2018 - PRLog -- Ujamaa Place is "Celebrating Every Step Forward" that Ujamaa men take to transform their lives.  In its eighth year of operations, Ujamaa Place has consistently focused on its core programming of transforming the lives of African American men, aged 18-30, who have experienced involvement with the criminal justice system.

At Ujamaa Place stabilization is accomplished through seven core programs that integrate cultural values of brotherhood, family and taking care of one another under its logic model called the "Theory of Transformation."  Each enrolled participant has an individual transformation plan (ITP), designed to meet the needs of each man at the time of enrollment.  Mentoring is provided by high context coaches that assist the men every step of the way through their journey.  Ujamaa men have experienced systemic poverty and trauma from living on the streets, therefore, every step forward is a celebration and recognition of the strength they possess within.

Take a look at Ujamaa's Automotive Training Certification program as an example of a cultural and experiential education and training pathway that leads to employment stabilization for Ujamaa men.  Jerry Griffis, Founder of JL Griffis Automotive Training School described the love and respect the men experience in the 10-week course, along with challenging curriculum and hands-on training through partnerships with local car dealerships who hire the men upon their graduation.  "The dealerships have experienced great success from JL Griffis Automotive school which supports growth for their business and employment stabilization for Ujamaa men," Mr. Griffis explained.

"The annual breakfast is an opportunity to thank our many philanthropic and corporate partners who support the transformation programs, its long list of individual donors from the community who give generously, and the staff and service providers that give time, talent and love to help the men succeed," said Lee Buckley, Ujamaa Place Chief of Operations.
