Chicago - September 25, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes Jennifer Schuck as a 2018-2019 Influencer. She is acknowledged as a leader in entrepreneurship. The International Association of Women (IAW) is a global in-person and online networking platform with nearly one million members, 1000+ in person and virtual events, over 100 Local US based Chapters and International Chapters in several cities in China.

“I’m pleased to welcome Jennifer into this exceptional group of professional women,” said IPDN President and IAW Spokesperson Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”

Jennifer Schuck always dreamed of being a Legal Secretary but, on the advice of a high school teacher, she enrolled in the court reporting program of a private business college. “If you enrolled in the court reporting program and didn’t like it after the first semester, you could switch to the legal secretarial program without losing any credits,” she said. “I had nothing to lose.”

That was 25 years ago, and Ms. Schuck never did become a Legal Secretary. Instead, she was a Court Reporter for 11 years, eventually transitioning to captioning. In 2001, she founded Caption Pros, a Scottsdale, AZ-based company that provides captioning services for special and corporate events, classroom situations, business meetings and more.

As President, Ms. Schuck is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the business. “I manage scheduling, payroll, customer service, client interaction as well as actually caption large conferences,” she said. “I have a small but mighty team to handle some very large clients.”

Ms. Schuck, who can type 290 words/minute on a steno machine with 99+% accuracy, finds it very rewarding to be in a position to help those who have hearing loss. “Every day I empower individuals with hearing loss by allowing them to actively participate in conversations – whether that be in the classroom or at a business meeting or large corporate event – by providing real-time captioning,” she said.

While she is glad when she can be “someone’s ears,” Ms. Schuck is disheartened when she witnesses discrimination in the workplace. “I can’t do anything to change those situations,” she said. “Disability awareness should be a core class in school – for everyone!”

“My goal is to bring accessibility to the forefront in corporate America; to make the decision be less about how much it costs and more about empowering employees to be the best they can be,” Ms. Schuck added. “Someone should not have to request an accommodation. Every live event should just be accessible to everyone.”

The current world champion of the Intersteno speed competition, Ms. Schuck regularly teaches other Captioners. “I will be hosting an event October 6 & 7, 2018, in Boise, Idaho, to train real-time Captioners how to improve their skill by using technology used in corporate America today,” she said.

Awards & Accomplishments: Graduate of MacCormac College (1993); member and chairperson, NCRA CART Community of Interest Committee (2008-2014); member of the NCRA CRC Real-time Certification Committee (2010-2016); Chair of the Arizona Court Reporters Association’s CART committee (2006-2014); Co-chair of the Captioning Ethics Task Force, which created the ethical guidelines for Captioners (2013-2015); Hearing Loss Association of America’s Chapter Professional award (2011) • Arizona Court Reporter Association’s Distinguished Service Award (2012) ; Fellow of the Academy of Professional Reporters (Chicago 2016); First place NCRA Realtime Q&A competition (Las Vegas 2017); First Place Intersteno Speech Capturing – Speed competition (Berlin 2017)
