Healthy Meals to Try in Summer

Summer is a great time to shed some of the extra pounds you put on in winter. Eating healthily and exercising can help you to lose weight, but you can also get that extra kick from certain natural supplements.

BERKELEY, CA, September 17, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Summer is a great time for keeping healthy. So many vegetables and fruits are in bloom, and they taste great in the hot summer weather. The summer is also a great time to get into shape because your metabolism is generally increased and your fat storage decreases. It's also a lot more convenient to go outside for a run in warmer temperatures.

Summer is a great time to shed some of the extra pounds you put on in winter. Eating healthily and exercising can help you to lose weight, but you can also get that extra kick from certain natural supplements like Garcinia cambogia or forskolin extract. You can read more about these plant extract supplements on Consumer Health Review.

But eating healthily does not have to sacrifice taste. Here are some easy recipes to try that taste great and are completely healthy.

1. Lean meat kebabs
Buying some lean cuts of meat and spicing them with herbs, then placing diced pieces of the meat on a skewer, is a very simple process to follow. Having them with a side of a rocket and brown rice with lemon makes for a completely delicious and wholesome meal. Lean meat from ruminants like sheep and cows contains conjugated linoleic acid which assists with weight loss, or using fish such as salmon can provide you with omega-3 fatty acids.

2. Bulgar wheat salad
Salads are a very versatile meal to make. You can add a range of raw or cooked vegetables to produce many different flavors. One tasty combination is to include a bit of bulgur wheat with chopped cherry tomatoes, fresh broccoli and a bit of mint sprinkled on top. The vegetables and the bulgur wheat are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber and low in fat. Bulgur wheat is a great source of plant-based protein that you can also add to chopped chicken or turkey or low fat Greek cheese.

3. Fruit smoothie ice lollies
This recipe is a great one for summer because everyone wants something colder to eat when the temperatures rise. But ice cream is full of fat and sugar, which can pack on excess weight unnecessarily. A much healthier, but just as tasty alternative is to make a fruit smoothie and freeze it on a lolly stick. This trick also works great with low-fat yogurt.

4. Pasta with low-fat pesto and peas
Pasta is actually quite healthy because it is low GI which means that it doesn't cause a massive spike in insulin and subsequent fat storage. Pasta is also quite versatile because it can be added to just about any kind of sauce that you can come up with. Pesto is a great sauce to add because it is packed with flavor but it contains many healthy ingredients too. To make pesto you can blend fresh basil, a little bit of cheese, garlic, fromage frais and vegetable stock in a blender. Otherwise, you can finely chop them and mix them together in a bowl. Add steamed or boiled peas for an extra bit of vitamins. Not only is this meal low GI but it is full of antioxidants and healthy fats.

5. Thai summer roll
If you have an interest in unusual and exciting flavors then Thai food is just for you. Some Thai recipes include peanut butter sauces. You can make a peanut butter sauce by mixing the following together in a blender:
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves of garlic peeled
- 2 tablespoons of reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1 to 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of honey
And you can add a few drops of lime juice or stock if you feel the need.

Then to make the summer roll, you can mix some ingredients like cucumbers, avocados, bell peppers and carrots as well as some herbs like cumin or peppermint with the peanut butter sauce and wrap it all in a rice paper wrapper.

6. Mashed white bean-pesto tartines (on whole wheat)
Having a sandwich or an open sandwich as a snack or meal can be one of the most easy and most fulfilling meals of the day. You can make a spread out of beans and garlic (blended together in equal amounts) seasoned with salt, lemon juice and half a teaspoon of red peppers (crushed). Placing the spread on whole wheat or rye bread and sprinkling it again with a light amount of salt or using a healthy cheese makes an absolutely delicious meal.
