Dave Burbage Celebrates 20 Years of Main Street Fitness

October 2018, will mark the 20th anniversary of Main Street Fitness. Located in the Historic Downtown of Woodstown, New Jersey, this facility has provided a fun, friendly, family atmosphere for the local community for two decades! Owner and trainer, Dave Burbage, along with the help of Steve Hoerst, Rich Deangelo, and countless others, has helped local residents as well as visitors to achieve their goals.

Strength and conditioning are not just for athletes! Main Street Fitness helps members of all ages to increase their strength and stamina. This improves your day to day quality of life, longevity, and resistance to injury. Free weights, selectorized strength equipment, and even one's own body weight are used to increase muscle strength.

Cardiovascular work is critical for peak performance as well as one's overall health. Main Street Fitness has grown from four to seven treadmills, from three to six ellipticals, and from three to six bikes over the years. We also have a Concept 2 rower, and what facility would be complete without the traditional StairMaster?

While some equipment at Main Street Fitness has evolved over the years, much of the strength equipment has remained exactly the same. The highest of quality strength equipment was chosen and remains intact with few changes. Maintenance is performed primarily by Dave Burbage, with some of it being done by Woodstown Native and longtime friend, Nathan Hiles. Icarian Strength is built to last a lifetime and comprises over 90% of the strength equipment. Pacific Fitness and Hammer strength are also in use to round out the complete circuit.

Main Street Fitness is one of the only facilities in the known universe to offer FREE personal training. Rather than showing people how difficult it is to workout, we show people how easy it is! Because it is free, there is no pressure whatsoever to meet with trainers. Members are encouraged to meet with one of the qualified trainers on staff for an initial evaluation and workout. They can then return to the trainer for revisions and additional exercises. There is never a charge for help here at Main Street Fitness. The owner of Main Street Fitness, Dave Burbage, had two theories in mind when he opened Main Street Fitness. First, he thought that everything should be family oriented. If someone else opened that facility and his mother joined, he would want someone to show her how to use the equipment. Secondly, he adopted the expression, "If I wanted people wandering around in the dark, I would not have installed lights."

In addition to the workout facet, and the business facet, this gem of a local business is often anything BUT a business. It has been a place where people have found their feet again -LITERALLY. Dave Burbage has helped people get out of wheelchairs, off of crutches, and even showed a man his first steps after nearly 15 years of not being able to walk. Rehabilitation work, injury recovery, cardiovascular surgery recovery, and many others are all done here.

Main Street has also been the first place of employment to many local high schools and college kids. Main Street Fitness boasts former employees that have gone on to West Point, Ivy League Schools, served in the Military, and countless that have gone on to Law Enforcement. We have three siblings that worked here that ALL went on to become Delaware State Police Officers. Two other DSP officers, several NJSP Officers, and many Local Police Officers reinforce the support that Main Street Fitness shows to Military, Law Enforcement and Emergency Response.

Community outreach from Main Street Fitness does not end at just "writing a check". Although monetary support is provided for local fundraisers, often times memberships are donated as well. Where Main Street Fitness truly stands apart in the community is its constant hands-on help. Dave Burbage the owner of Main Street Fitness, routinely visits members homes to do I.T. work, manual labor, and a variety of other tasks. Members here are treated like family. If someone needs their new flat screen TV hung, Dave is the first to volunteer. Neighbors are also treated like family. Main Street Fitness is always willing to share their parking lot, and when there is a parade or event on Main Street, the restrooms are always open to the public. People can always duck in out of the elements. When it is hot, the mailman gets free, cold, bottled water. When it is cold, Dave shovels snow along the entire block. When it is warm, Dave can be found mowing random lawns that need it. People are either on vacation or have been unable to get to it... Main Street Fitness will get it done. This has even inspired one of the members to drive around with a Zero Turn mower on a trailer and do bigger yards voluntarily.

So while Main Street Fitness has been in "business" for twenty years, it is more important that it has been part of the community for twenty years. Building athletes, increasing longevity, molding minds, helping the community... Twenty years has gone by in a flash. And we could never have done it without the patronage of its membership base. Thank you for the continued support. We mean that sincerely.
