Buying Live Succulent Plants Online is More Popular than Ever

ENCINITAS, Calif. - July 3, 2018 - PRLog -- Harddy.com, an online succulent marketplace, celebrated their 2000th order earlier this year.  What did Chris Grubbs and Joseph Gavica, the co-founders of Harddy, do to celebrate?  They decided to surprise the lucky customer with a completely free order.

The team behind Harddy has big goals in mind with these tiny but mighty succulents, and it all starts with the customer connection.

"We take our business very personally and try to make a connection with every customer," says Grubbs.  "It's a great pleasure to see that resonate with our audience."

2000 orders, north of 50,000 succulents, have been delivered across the country by Harddy, and they have plans to do much more in the coming months.

"We didn't set out to be just another company selling succulents online," says Grubbs.  "We want to dramatically improve the entire experience.  To do that properly, it takes amazing partners that work hard to supply our customers with the very best hardy plants and designs."

Rhea, Harddy's 2000th customer, took some time out of her day to answer some questions and discuss her thoughts on Harddy.

Rhea: "I found harddy.com  while searching for how to care for succulents through Google. That's what I really like about your company. The tips you give on how to care for the plants when they arrive. This is a new hobby for me and I have a hard time figuring out how best to care for the plants I buy."

Would please describe why you chose Harddy over those other, possibly more familiar, companies?

Rhea: "I have had history of buying succulents online via Etsy, Amazon, and other sellers I found through Instagram.  The plants I bought through Amazon unfortunately arrived damaged and dying.  I will never buy from that Amazon seller again.  While the succulents I bought through Etsy and Instagram sellers arrived in good condition they were very pricey.  So, when I stumbled upon your website, found the prices reasonable and the reviews excellent I took a chance and placed an order."

How important are nursery fresh succulents to you?
Rhea: "It is very important that the succulents I receive are as fresh as possible. I have ordered from several sellers in the past and so far only one has been able to deliver fresh succulents. The rest are dying or been damaged in the mail."

What would you like to see from Harddy in the future?
Rhea: "More variety of plants sold and some of the more exotic ones. I see a lot of the exotic succulents on Instagram and have a hard time finding them unless I buy them from the home growers and they charge an arm and a leg for it."

Looking at the reviews on Harddy, you'll notice a common thread among them: customer service exceeded all expectations and the plants arrived in perfect condition.

"There are so many parts of this business we can't control, but exceptional customer service is not one of them," says Gavica.  "That's why we guarantee every plant, every order, every time."

Succulents are fragile, with many of them having light, air, and temperature sensitivities.  Combine that with a journey across the country, and shipping succulents has become something Harddy works daily on to perfect the process.  They are constantly looking for and testing the best methods to package and ship succulents safely.

"There are a lot of challenges to shipping live succulents," says Gavica. "So many shapes, sizes, textures, it's really not like shipping anything else."

Nursery fresh succulents and user experience are two things Harddy takes great pride in.

"Nursery fresh means no warehouse, no grow lights, no constantly changing environmental conditions," add Grubbs.  "Just one simple step, from the nursery to you."

The website is constantly changing to make the user experience exciting, helpful and fun.  From their silly puns, daily sales, new products, and succulent care blog, everything they do ties back to these two goals: make customers happy and keep them coming back.

"While so many larger companies use the internet and online tools to distance themselves from the customer, we use them to bring us closer," adds Grubbs.  "We want your experience to be as enjoyable as going to a market or local nursery. If you're not having fun buying succulents, then we're doing it wrong."

Harddy has put every penny made back into their business. Over the next few months, their goal is to have the largest selection available online. Additionally, they have some great partnerships with local artisans and businesses that will further elevate what they offer for succulent event decor.

"We have so much more to do and it's incredibly challenging, but we are having fun," says Gavica.  "Maybe we're idealistic, but I don't think that's a bad thing."
