MELBOURNE, Australia - June 11, 2018 - PRLog -- RECENTLY, The Government announced yet another national cyber security rollout, however the ideas continue to be nonsensical as the spending is focussed on areas that never relate to the actual cause.
In a meeting between of colleagues regarding National Cyber Security, Mr. Simon Smith, a Computer Forensic Investigator, Certified Fraud and IT Expert Witness who specialises in tracking down cyber criminals discussed when he was, "permitted to make recommendations to senior staff at the Department of the Prime Minister in Cabinet last year, but I have not noticed any implementations."
Mr. Smith is often called in crisis to Corporates, Public, Lawyers & Courts (for expert advice / testimony) and has even assisted the media in the past. He is an independent highly qualified "first responder" who has solved many cyber-security and cyber-crime breaches. He has seen the devastation of a breach. "The Government are focussing their energies (and our money) in the wrong area."
Mr. Smith holds many credentials and is an expert in IT and cyber investigations, forensics, online fraud, and holds over two decades of industry experience. "The Government need to tighten up on their own Governance to protect our data, the threat consistently is internal," he says.
Asking the Government to scrutinise their senior staff should not be so hard. "It seems to me that the public servants should not be excluded as 'insider threats', yet they run the show, and nobody seems to consult with outside experts."
Mr. Smith shared his concerns with Helen Edwards, the 'Secretary General' of a newly forming 'International Governance Prosecution Agency (IGPA)'. Ms. Edwards has been lobbying for change and better communications and has been met with what she calls a "brick wall" approach.
"I had to seek external help to have my own international cyber fraud case investigated due to non-action by the Australia Federal Police, and then ACORN, Queensland Police since December 2014, reaching out to all Regulators – ASIC, AUSTRAC, ACCC, FOS, APRA, AG in etc, and the long list goes well on into 2015.
"Since then I too see the failure from top to bottom 'could not care less' unsupportive taxpayer funded employee attitude.
"As this negligence does impact the rest of the world, other international anti-fraud groups have reached out to me where I will be sharing my findings of over 3.5 years of complete non-action," Ms. Edwards stated.
SOLVING THE ISSUE FROM WITHIN - INTERNAL GOVERNANCE APPROACH
"Understanding and admitting there is a problem is the first step, then consult with experts. Only then can the Australian public have greater faith in the nation's online security backbone.
"Every person has a right to feel safe and not have their personal details 'accidentally leaked' out into the public. I express grave concerns at how fragile and unprepared Australia is to internal attacks for the above reasons," Mr. Smith said.
