ACSH Announces Young Scientists In America Interns For 2018

By: PRLog
The American Council on Science and Health, the premier pro-science outreach group in the U.S., has named its interns for summer 2018 research projects.
NEW YORK & WASHINGTON - June 6, 2018 - PRLog -- The American Council on Science and Health, the country's leading pro-science consumer advocacy and education non-profit, has announced its 2018 Young Scientists in America summer interns.

The Young Scientists in America program is geared toward early career science and health scholars who have not completed their Ph.D. or M.D. programs. It is available for science majors as early as their senior year in college and is a two-month program of intensive research.

"This is not getting coffee or doing filing, this is serious work helping educate the public about the difference between legitimate health risks and manufactured environmental scares," said American Council on Science and Health President Hank Campbell. "We pay interns well, unlike corporate media outlets, because we believe that smart people deserve to be compensated for it. We received hundreds of applications, and it's never easy narrowing such smart people down to just a few, but we did, and we couldn't be more pleased with this year's group."

For summer 2018, the ACSH Young Scientists in America interns are:

Christine Ford, MPH, Research Assistant to The President, is managing the interns and finishing the Washington, DC office, will attend Congressional briefings, panels and events on behalf of the Council, and conduct research for Hank Campbell. She begins her Ph.D. program this fall.

Yesmar Oyarzun, MPH, the Dr. Elizabeth M. Whelan Intern in Epidemiology, is going to work on public health awareness, attend Congressional briefings, and appear at panels and events on behalf of the Council. She begins her Ph.D. program this fall.

Stephanie Bloom, the Dr. C. Everett Koop Intern in Medicine, is going to work on smoking cessation and tobacco harm reduction epidemiology, attend Congressional briefings, and appear at panels and events on behalf of the Council. She will be entering her final year at Virginia Tech this fall.

Jailen Johnson, the Dr. Fredrick J. Stare Intern in Nutrition, is going to conduct nutrition research, attend Congressional briefings, and appear at panels and events on behalf of the Council. She will be entering her final year at the University of Louisville this fall.

Yasmine Palmer, the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Intern in Agriculture, is going to work on consumer awareness about the benefits versus scares related to seeds and crop protection.

The American Council on Science and Health is a 501(c)(3) science and health education and consumer advocacy organization that was founded in 1978 to promote evidence-based science and health policy.
