CNEX Labs and LITE-ON Demonstrate Unprecedented NVMe SSD Performance at OCP Summit 2018

CNEX Labs, Inc., a private semiconductor company providing solid-state storage controllers and software for cloud, hyperscale, and enterprise data centers, and LITE-ON Storage, an established leader in the rapidly-expanding solid-state drive (SSD) industry, today jointly announced the demonstration of break-through storage performance at this week’s Open Compute Summit 2018.

At this week’s Open Compute Summit, LITE-ON will showcase its new AD2 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD with 3D NAND technology featuring CNEX’s proprietary, advanced CNX-2670 controller that delivers an unrivaled 550,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second), a 25% performance increase over previously available M.2 form-factor SSDs. Together with CNEX, LITE-ON will also demonstrate an M.2 SSD that features early support for Project Denali, a cloud-first storage interface Microsoft announced at this week’s Open Compute Summit. This demonstration achieves a radical latency reduction of up to 95% through IO isolation, providing a potentially disruptive improvement in QoS for cloud computing.

CNEX’s PCIe SSD controllers offer the flexibility to support both NVMe and Open-Channel SSD technology, the latter of which will now be standardized within Project Denali by Microsoft and other industry leaders, including LITE-ON and project steering committee member CNEX. “The combination of CNEX’s unique hardware-accelerated controller technology -- featuring best-in-class performance and power consumption -- and LITE-ON’s established capabilities in building advanced SSDs, offers a powerful solution for the most demanding hyperscale, cloud and enterprise data center environments,” said Justin Heindel, vice president of marketing and business development at CNEX Labs. “CNEX is excited to work with LITE-ON to bring these disruptive product advancements to the solid state storage market.”

“CNEX has been one of the key partners in helping to deliver SSD features that address the vital data center needs of our enterprise customers,” said Darlo Perez, Managing Director, Americas region at LITE-ON Storage Group. “By working with partners such as CNEX, LITE-ON is able to deliver innovative cloud-based storage solutions that customers can quickly and cost effectively deploy to better store and manage their critical information.”
