"Design in the Desert" theme for 2018 Arizona Historic Preservation Conference, June 6-8, 2018 in Scottsdale, Arizona

PHOENIX, AZ, January 18, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Early registration is now open for the 16th Annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference that will take place at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale, Arizona, June 6-8, 2018. Registration begins at $240 per person for the 2.5-day event and includes all conference materials, access to sessions and featured speakers, and more. Early registration discounts end February 28, 2018.

The theme of this year's conference, "Design in the Desert," is intended to focus attention on the adaptations which enabled prehistoric inhabitants, indigenous tribes, Euro-American settlers and all of their descendants to make a living in the Arizona Deserts. From the construction of Hohokam pithouses and canals to contemporary passive solar residences and water harvesting technology, the desire to live comfortably and sustainably in the desert has informed and shaped the built environment of the state. Arizona's beautiful deserts and its rich indigenous heritage are what makes the state unique, and the sessions and speakers at this conference will inspire all those in attendance to celebrate the human ingenuity that has shaped this desert oasis.

Praised as one of the finest historic preservation conferences in the United States, this program continues to see participants and featured speakers from around the world congregate in Arizona to learn about state-of-the-art preservation techniques and technology, archaeological advances, legislation, tax benefits, project management, historic homeownership requirements, tribal preservation programs, urban planning, architecture, rehabilitation guidelines, and much more.

This year marks the 37th Annual Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Awards, presented by the State Historic Preservation Office and the Arizona Preservation Foundation. These awards recognize people, organizations, and projects that represent outstanding achievements in preserving Arizona's prehistoric and historic resources. In addition, the 31st Annual Governor's Awards in Public Archaeology, selected by the Governor's Archaeology Advisory Commission, recognize excellence in archaeological awareness, conservation and education. Awards presentations will take place June 7, 2018 at the Hotel Valley Ho and is included in full conference registration.
