Police Departments Embrace Automatic License Plate Recognition

By: PRLog
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Jan. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- BAYCOM Supplies PIPS Technology's ALPR Equipment and Software
Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) technology is becoming more common within the law enforcement community, giving industry leaders such as BAYCOM and the Wisconsin ALPR Association the impetus to provide additional educational resources and system consultation for public safety organizations.

The Wisconsin ALPR Association was formed in 2011 for the purpose of bringing data into one server. This allows secure sharing of data between police departments and other public safety organizations for efficient data retrieval and potential investigative matching. The greater the volume of data, the better the data resource becomes.

"Fugitive captures and vehicle recoveries outside of your home jurisdiction become much more feasible with this shared database," says Kate Premo, communications consultant at BAYCOM, a member of the Wisconsin ALPR Association. "The investigative benefits of automatic license plate recognition easily justify the investment for participating departments in this law enforcement tool."

Automatic License Plate Recognition Enhances Efficiency and Safety
BAYCOM carries Neology's PIPS Technology brand of automatic license plate recognition systems. PIPS Technology is a globally recognized name with more than 55,000 deployments of mobile, portable and fixed ALPR solutions around the world.

"Approximately 70 percent of crimes involve the use of a motor vehicle," Premo explains. "Automatic license plate recognition technology gives law enforcement a significant advantage in identifying potential vehicle targets either through live interaction or fixed surveillance. This ability enhances officer safety as well as efficiency."

BAYCOM, a Wisconsin-based provider of public safety communications systems and associated technology, also provides Next Generation 911 Airbus VESTA and Motorola Solutions CallWorks software suites. Next Gen 9-1-1 is an Internet Protocol (IP)-based system that allows digital information to flow seamlessly from the public through the 9-1-1 center and on to emergency responders.
