Regis Corporation Sued For Chemical Burns To Scalp From Coloring

The ownership of a hair salon in Mankato is being sued after a customer suffered chemical burns after having her hair colored.

MANKATO, MN, November 27, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to the filing in Blue Earth County District Court, Karen Woelfel went to the SmartStyle Hair Salon in Minnesota in March of 2017. Shortly after receiving the coloring services, she noticed the coloring chemicals had dripped off her hair and burned through her clothing. Despite trying to shower off the chemicals for more than 20 minutes, Woelfel suffered numerous burns on her back and arm, which resulted in permanent injury and scarring.

The lawsuit says Regis Corporation, which owns the salon, was negligent in failing to properly train and supervise the employee who performed the services. Woelfel alleges that the stylist told her to go home and wash off the chemicals, as she did not have enough time to do it at the salon.

Regis Corporation was previously sued in New Jersey by a young woman whose scalp was burned when coloring was applied to her hair. The 2011 out-of-court settlement in a federal lawsuit over the scalp burns guaranteed that the victim would receive monthly payments of $2,686 from a tax-deferred annuity, with a projected lifetime yield of $2.2 million.
