Liberate Pain Management Introduces Suboxone Therapy and Other New Services

Behavioral Health Group of Muskegon to Assist; Yoga and Holistic Pain Treatments Introduced

NORTON SHORES, MI / ACCESSWIRE / November 20, 2017 / Liberate Pain Management announced today that it will begin providing suboxone therapy through its Norton Shores location, and will partner with Behavioral Health Group of Muskegon (BHGM) to assist patients with opioid dependence. Liberate will begin accepting patients for this therapy December 1.

"The opioid crisis is a well-known and a serious problem," said Daniel J. Reid, Chief Executive Officer of Liberate, in making the announcement. "We believe suboxone is a highly effective treatment for certain patients, particularly when combined with behavioral therapy. We are partnering with BHGM because positive patient outcomes are greatly enhanced when suboxone treatment is combined with mental health therapy and support."

Behavioral Health Group of Muskegon is owned by Joel Engel, LMSW, and is one of the area's leading specialists in mental health and substance abuse counseling. In addition to Engel, Sara Boersma, LMSW, will treat patients under the care of Liberate. Dr. Marla Gendelman will provide the medical services for patients undergoing Liberate's suboxone protocol.

Reid also announced that Liberate will begin offering a broad variety of yoga, touch therapy and other holistic treatments for pain management and trauma, and has entered into an agreement with Diana's School of Innovation to provide those services at its offices in Norton Shores. Diana Springstead will begin offering yoga and holistic therapies beginning November 27.

"Chronic pain is more effectively treated when using multiple therapies," Gendelman says. "These new partnerships and services will give patients a broader array of options. For patients suffering from opioid addiction, the addition of behavioral services will be an essential and required element to those patients being treated with suboxone at Liberate."

Suboxone is a prescription medicine indicated for opioid dependence. Studies have shown that it is significantly more effective when combined with mental health counseling.

Springstead is a registered Trauma Sensitive Holy Yoga provider and Master yoga instructor working with all body types, ages and fitness levels. She has particular expertise in pain and trauma-sensitive therapy. "Some of the benefits of yoga and touch massage are increased oxygen intake, range of motion, strength, flexibility, balance and blood circulation, as well as decreased stress," she says.

"The treatment of opioid dependence is highly complex and should involve multiple strategies," Gendelman says. "There are inherent risks involved, which can be minimized by taking a multiple-strategy approach. Effective treatment also involves a patient's willingness and ongoing commitment to embrace multiple and sometimes alternative therapies."

Behavioral Health Group of Muskegon and its staff have been serving the West Michigan community for nearly 40 years and is located at 84 South Seaway Drive in Muskegon. Liberate Pain Management is located at 1034 East Sternberg Road in Norton Shores. Diana's School of Innovation is based in Muskegon and is a 501(c)(3) organization.
