MemeStream announces the launch of its social media app, founded by Sophia Latessa, 16 year-old CEO and tech entrepreneur. MemeStream is a social content platform that allows users to communicate back and forth through the cultural phenomenon of memes.
Latessa was 15 when she started the Los Angeles based startup. She now manages a team of six and oversees every aspect of the company. She fits in her conference calls and team meetings before school and during lunch. As a young hispanic women in tech who codes, she hopes to inspire other young women to pursue careers in STEM fields.
MemeStream is a lot more than a simple meme generator or feed. The app allows users to scroll through multiple captions for every meme, create their own take on viral favorites, and make entirely new ones themselves. Sophia first thought of the idea because the memes she was sharing with friends were disaggregated across the internet. After approaching her father with the idea, she was told to forget it and concentrate on her studies. Undeterred, she raised the capital by reaching out to investors.
