How to select the Right Tires for Heavy Trucks and Tractor Trailers

Choosing the right tires for heavy trucks is crucial so that they can run with minimum interruptions to service.  These tires, which are often used for vehicles on large construction sites or for the transportation of goods and supplies, have to bear the entire haul load and are responsible for smooth operation. Certain types such as loader tires are considered the best for heavy vehicles such as backhoes or loaders as they provide decent cushioning as well as an excellent grip on the road.

Many people opt to buy used tires that are in good condition for their heavy vehicles. However, it may not be the right choice. Used tires have already suffered heavy wear and tear, and they do not offer the same level of safety and quality performance as new tires. They cannot withstand rough use and the toughness of many roads. Problems could  occur.  Moreover, you cannot be certain of the quality of the refurbishment.  The only advantage with used tires is that they are cheaper and do not increase your costs that much.

While choosing the right type of tires for your heavy truck you should consider all types of heavy-duty tires that are available. The applications and operating conditions may differ at times, and you need to make a choice that works for all conditions. Loader tires come in three different categories: bias-ply, belted bias-ply and radial tires. All three of them have their pros and cons.

The most common truck tires are 11R22.5 and 11R24.5

Radial Truck Tires 16 Ply

So called because of their construction method of steel cords. In these tires, the steel cords are placed at crisscross positions to support the weight and the tread is placed on them. These tires are not so tough, but they provide a smooth ride. Belted-ply tires follow the same construction pattern apart from the steel belts being placed below the cord structure. The steel belts in this version improve the performance of the tire and reduce the rolling resistance.

 trucktires.inc.com also sells many other truck tires such as 385/65R22.5, 315/80R22.5, 245/70R19.5, 1200R24, 1100R20, 295/75R22.5.

Another popular version of light truck tires, MT 200 LT tires are radials. Radial tires are constructed to survive heavy wear and tear and do not damage easily. Their construction is more complex than the above two and involves stabilizer belts placed below the treads that allow the tire to be tougher and improve performance. However, radial tires are not able to provide comfortable cushioning and are better for smoother roads or job sites that do not have a lot of uneven terrain, our most common MT – Mount Terrain Tires are the Road Warrior MT-200.
