Foreign-born residents in Japan sue the government for racial profiling

By: NewsUSA

(Matthew Du, NewsUSA Reporter) - In what could only be described as an ongoing debate surrounding Japanese identity and nationality, three foreign-born residents in Japan are currently suing the country’s government over alleged racial profiling. The plaintiffs filed the lawsuit in the Tokyo National Court and alleges that they were questioned by the police on basis of their race.

For remuneration and compensation, the trio are seeking 3 million yen per person from the national government and Tokyo metropolitan government.

Japan is known as an ethnically homogenous country with comparatively low levels of immigration. This latest case highlights the countries ongoing struggle in balancing its conservative views on immigration with its ongoing call for younger workers.
