CARICON Launches End-of-Year Appeal for Hurricane Melissa Relief

CARICON Resilience Fund to Support School Libraries and Creative Communities in Jamaica, Cuba, and The Bahamas

-- As communities across Jamaica, Cuba, and The Bahamas recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa, CARICON, the Los Angeles-based Caribbean literary, culture, and heritage organization, announces its end-of-year appeal for the CARICON Resilience Fund, a dedicated initiative supporting creatives and communities during times of disaster.

The CARICON Resilience Fund provides rapid-response assistance to help artists, writers, and cultural workers recover after natural disasters and other crises. In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, donations made during this campaign will be directed to affected communities in Jamaica, Cuba, and The Bahamas to support school libraries and community organizations, ensuring that learning and cultural access are restored in the new year.

"Creative communities are often among the hardest hit during disasters," said V. Steve Russell, Executive Director of CARICON. "In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, contributions to the CARICON Resilience Fund go directly to the ground—supporting school libraries and community partners in Jamaica, Cuba, and The Bahamas, and enabling book donations that help reopen doors to education, imagination, and healing."

Through the fund, CARICON will facilitate book donations and library restoration efforts, helping schools in the affected islands rebuild collections and resume programming as communities recover from the storm. The initiative reflects CARICON's ongoing commitment to cultural preservation, education, and resilience across the Caribbean diaspora.
