Astound Announces $34 Million High-Speed Internet Project for Orland Park, Surrounding Areas

More than 19,000 homes and 4,000 businesses in fiber network’s footprint

Astound, a recognized leader in internet, Wi-Fi, mobile, TV and fiber-optic solutions, today announced that it has started work on a $34 million fiber optic network construction project to bring high-speed internet connectivity to residents and businesses in Orland Park and nearby areas. Once complete, the project will provide more than 19,000 homes and nearly 4,000 area businesses with access to Astound’s fiber network, delivering symmetrical speeds of up to five gigabits per second for residential and commercial use.

Starting this August, homes will begin to have access to Astound’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, with more than 10,000 homes having access to the network by the end of 2025 and the full complement of 19,000 homes and 4,000 businesses by the end of 2026. Astound has begun building 285 miles of state-of-the-art fiber-optic infrastructure, extending its existing fiber network and high-speed services throughout the Orland Park community. With a team of approximately 50 working on the project, crews have already completed several miles of underground fiber construction. The project involves 100% underground construction, with active permitting processes continuing.

Astound engineered its fiber network expansion to power the fastest connectivity speeds Orland Park has seen to-date. Area households will be able to work, stream content, play games, and browse at lightning speeds with no slowdowns, supported by wall-to-wall Wi-Fi 7 technology. Symmetrical speeds deliver equally fast uploads and downloads, especially advantageous for Orland Park’s remote workers who engage in video calls and content creation. Pristine 4K streaming enables anyone to watch their favorite shows in ultra-high definition, with little to no interruptions or pauses for loading. For gamers, the connectivity supports ultra-low latency, low-lag online experiences for smooth and responsive play. The network empowers households and businesses with multiple devices to all be connected at once – without compromising speed.

Orland Park will be Astound’s first 100% underground project in the Chicago market. This construction is entirely funded by Astound, with five geographic zones the company will build and complete sequentially. The project expands upon Astound’s investment in nearby Blue Island, which began in 2023. Total investment in the southwest Chicago suburbs, including Blue Island, Orland Park, and nearby areas is $58 million, bringing a total of 663 miles of fiber optic infrastructure.

Astound will staff a dedicated kiosk inside the Orland Square Mall on weekends in July, August, and September. The kiosk will be located on the upper level of the mall’s Center Court area.
