Belden Partners with The Mom Project to Increase Representation of Women in Tech

The project is focused on connecting with women re-entering the workforce

Belden Inc. (NYSE: BDC), a leading global supplier of specialty networking solutions, has partnered with The Mom Project, an online platform with more than 500,000 female job seekers who look to re-enter the workforce after having children. Belden joins more than 3,000 employers across the United States who recognize the tremendous talent and diverse array of perspectives that members of The Mom Project offer the workplace.

Founded in 2016, The Mom Project exists to address the growing number of women leaving the workforce to care for family, who often face challenges when they wish to return to their careers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of women in the workforce is at the lowest level since the mid-1980s, while the Federal Reserve of San Francisco reports that mothers between the ages of 25 and 54 are more likely than any other group to be inactive in the workforce. The longer a woman sits out, the harder it becomes for her to resume her career.

“This is an important program for Belden,” says Dean McKenna, Senior Vice President and Chief HR Officer. “Women who have exited the workforce to care for their families spent many years learning their craft and making an impact. We want to remove an antiquated and unnecessary barrier that stands in the way of them resuming their careers and continuing to influence the solutions of tomorrow through their knowledge and unique points of view. It’s the right thing to do for business, innovation and ultimately for society.”

Partnership with The Mom Project is just one example of Belden’s focus on building a diverse, equitable and inclusive workspace. This initiative, among others, will help facilitate connections with diverse groups of individuals and engage with them in new ways.

“Belden’s goal is to connect with people from all backgrounds and create an environment of belonging, where we believe in the impact each of us can make by bringing our unique selves to our work,” says Elle Marc-Charles, Director of Inclusive Culture. “We look forward to advancing this partnership and welcoming moms to advance their careers at Belden.”
